Haroon Saleem and
Quincy Cooper provided the offensive punch and junior goalkeeper
Jean-Pascal Bozso made it hold up as the USC Aiken Pacers (2-3-0) blanked the home standing Mount Olive College Trojans (1-6-0) 3-0 in non-conference men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Saleem was awarded a penalty kick in the 40th minute of play and converted the score by beating Trojans goalkeeper
Derek Gish to make it 1-0. For
Saleem it was his second goal of the season and it was all
Bozso would need as the junior net-minder recorded three saves on four shots for his first shutout of the season.
Early in the second half,
Cooper scored a rebound goal in the 54th minute to make it 2-0 in favor of USCA. It was also his first tally of the 2002 season.
Sophomore
Cameron Butler added an insurance goal in the 80th minute off a cross from
Saleem for his third of the season and set the final margin at 3-0.
As a team, the Pacers dominated play out shooting the Trojans 19-4 for the match. The match also marked the Pacers first game of the year without receiving a yellow card. Mount Olive, however, was forced to play the entire second half a man down as
David Nolanreceived a yellow card in the 41st minute and then a red card two minutes later.
USC Aiken plays the final match of their six-game road swing on Wednesday, September 25 at Lander University in a 7:00 PM Peach Belt Conference contest.
