Maboungou Nets Tying Goal In Draw With Lakers

AIKEN, S.C. - The USCA men's soccer team played Clayton State to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon in PBC action.

The Pacers are now 3-8-1 on the year, including 2-7-1 against conference foes.

Head coach Nick Sakiewicz's squad trailed 1-0 entering the second half. However, USCA opened the second stanza with an offensive flurry. Murilo Carli's shot was stopped by the keeper at the 46:22 mark. Carlos Colomer's attempt was thwarted a moment later. Then, Melvin Maboungou had a shot blocked and one missed wide in the 48th minute of play.

A corner kick by Colomer resulted in a header by Gustavo Giuliacci, but it missed high. Then, Sakiewicz's team continued pushing forward and broke through at the 56:00 mark. Colomer placed a tremendous ball to Maboungou, who rocketed an attempt past the keeper for his third goal of the year. The score tied the match at 1-1.

USCA had a chance after a corner kick in the 65th minute, but the squad was unable to record a shot.

The Lakers had multiple opportunities, but the Pacers' defense and keeper Sean Simoncelli were up for the challenge.

For the match, USCA had nine shots, including four on goal. Simoncelli had five stops while playing all 90 minutes between the pipes.

Maboungou had a goal and Colomer had an assist. Carli, Colomer, Kwizera Jr., and Maboungou tallied shots on goal.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they host Lander at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
