Box Score 2 AIKEN, SC--Junior
Jason Nuzny took a shutout into the eighth inning before surrendering two runs, but held off the Ospreys as the 20th ranked USC Aiken Pacers (33-18, 13-13 PBC) upset fourth-ranked North Florida (34-10, 21-5 PBC) 5-2 in game one of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader. UNF won game two 6-3 but not before sophomore center fielder
Ashley Farr broke the school record for hits in a season.
After a scoreless first inning, PBC Freshman of the Year candidate
Bradley Key drew a two out walk in the second.
Tony Hanksroutine groundball to
Ryan Knight at shortstop was bobbled as
Key beat out the force play at second base to keep the inning alive.
Micheal Snelgrove cashed in on the extra out by bashing an RBI single to left field giving USCA the early 1-0 lead.
Nuzny made that lead hold up through seven when he got four insurance runs in the bottom of the seventh. An RBI single by
Ashley Morgan drove in two runs,
Demetrick Drumming added an infield RBI single while
Farr capped the Pacers scoring with an RBI groundout to second base.
Escaping jams in the second and third innings via double plays,
Nuzny again found himself in trouble in the eighth.
Ryan Soelig hit a one out single. Following a
Ryan McDonald strikeout,
Edward Conrey doubled home
Soelig for the Ospreys first run of the game.
Ricky Willis then doubled down the left field line to plate
Conrey and cut the lead to 5-2. But
Nuzny got catcher
Jesse Collins to fly out to
Farr in center to end the game.
???????Nuzny (5-5) allowed two earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 11 and walking one. The complete game was his fourth of the season.
For the Ospreys, All-American

???????Conrey led UNF going 3-for-4 at the plate while
Snelgrove was a perfect 3-for-3 to lead USCA.
In game two, the Pacers were ineffective against Ospreys right-hander
Adam Horne until the final two innings of the game. Trailing 5-0 headed into the bottom of the sixth, USCA plated three runs on five hits to make it 5-3. Farr knocked a bases loaded single through the right side of the infield scoring
Tavis Cummings and
Morgan. For
Farr, it was his second hit of the day. In the second inning,
Farr also singled giving him 86 hits on the season, breaking
Adam Riggs 1994 school record of 85 hits in a season.
Key added an infield single bringing home
Drumming.
After UNF tacked on one in the top of the seventh, the Pacers had the winning run at the plate in
Key with two outs and the bases loaded.
But
Key popped up to
Knight at shortstop to end the threat and the game.
Morgan and
Farr led the Pacers in game two each with two hits while
Soelig and
Conrey also tallied two base knocks for North Florida.
Horne (7-2) worked 5.1 innings giving up three earned runs on nine hits striking out one and walking one.
