Box Score AIKEN, SC--The 17th ranked USC Aiken Lady Pacers (3-1) extended their school record home court winning streak to 14 games on Friday night with a 73-51 win over Voorhees College (0-5) in women's non-conference basketball. Katie Mitchell scored 15 points off the bench to lead the Lady Pacers to their third-straight win. In the opening game of the Four Seasons Tip-Off Classic, Augusta State defeated Lenoir-Rhyne 72-63.
Jen Kennedy hit a pair of free throws at 18:57 as USC Aiken scored the game's first five points. Voorhees countered with a run of their own and pulled to within two at 8-6 on Sharon Baston jumper in the paint at 16:28. But over the next 5:50, the Lady Pacers put some distance between them and the Lady Tigers thanks to a 14-0 run.
Katie Gebhardt's jumper with 10:38 left until half made it 22-6.
The Lady Tigers capitalized on a pair of Lady Pacer turnovers just before half when Karen Hunt and Tamica Keys each hit jumpers inside of two minutes to play to set the halftime score at 37-24.
Mitchell had eight of her team-high 15 points in the first half as
Sarah Kendrick was the leader on the boards with six.
After Voorhees had made it a 10-point contest with 17:37 to play, USCA again pulled away. A 16-4 run extended their lead to 22 at 59-37 with 7:52 to play.
???????USCA connected on 28-of-55 shots from the field (50.9 percent) but were just 5-of-18 from downtown (27.8 percent). The Lady Pacers came into tonight's contest shooting 81.8 percent from the charity stripe but were just 12-of-19 (63.2 percent) against the Tigers.
Allison Nold added eight points and four rebounds while
Mindy Allee chipped in six points and three boards, both contributing to the Lady Pacers' 34 bench points.
Julie Szabo had 10 points and game-high six assists. Kennedy recorded nine points on 7-of-10 shooting at the stripe.
Jami Cornwell hit on 3-of-4 shots from the field for eight points, four rebounds, two assists, and three steals in 33 minutes.
Voorhees was led by Sharon Baston's 16 points. Nicole Utsey added nine points while Sabrina Sherwood chipped in eight points and five rebounds. As a team, the Lady Tigers shot 37.7 percent from the field, 20.0 percent from behind the arc, committed 20 turnovers, and were out rebounded 38-26.
In the first game of the night, Augusta State's Arijana Sijercic posted a double double with 14 points and 15 rebounds as the Lady Jaguars knocked off Lenoir-Rhyne 72-63. Sabrina Jones added 20 points on 8-of-17 shooting.
Maya Grady led the Lady Bears with 18 points, seven rebounds, six steals, and five assists in 26 minutes.
USC Aiken will square off against Lenoir-Rhyne tomorrow at 4:00 PM following Augusta State and Voorhees' game at 2:00 PM.
