PANTHERSVILLE, GA - For the third time this season, Kelley Shemansky led the USC Aiken women's cross country team as she placed 48th among the 98-runner field at the Clayton State Cross Country Invitational Saturday.
Shemansky, who is also a starter on the USCA women's soccer team, finished with a time of 23:59 in the 5K course. The winning time was 17:54 by Marjo Venalainen of Kennesaw State.
The Lady Pacers tallied 267 points and finished 11th of 13 teams. Valdosta State slipped by with a two-point margin over Kennesaw State, 54-56.
Another two-sport athlete,
Bridget Brennan, completed the route in 24:27, placing 53rd overall. Veronica Derico and April Storey competed in their first race of the season, finishing 57th and 64th, respectively. Sophomores
Ericka Bennett (77th) and
Lacey Gunther (91st) had strong showings; Guntherrecorded her best time of the season at 29:42.
USCA's next competition is the USC Spartanburg Invitational on Saturday, September 29.
