SPARTANBURG, SC - Freshman Veronica Derico led the way for the Lady Pacers cross country team as they place sixth of seven teams at the USC Spartanburg Invitational Saturday.
Derico finished her season-best 25th in the 6K race, with a time of 27:45. Right behind her was junior Kelley Shemansky in 29th of the 52 runners closing with a time of 28:24. The rest of the Lady Pacers finished in a pack from 37th to 49th place.
Joni Guffey of Clayton State, finishing with a time of 22:33, recorded the winning time. Guffey and Lady Lakers out-ran Carson-Newman for the team victory by three points, 39-42.
USCA's next competition is Saturday, October 6 at the Presbyterian Cross Country Invitational in Clinton, SC.
