MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – USC Aiken and Mount Olive battled to a 3-3 tie in a match stopped due to darkness just over three minutes into the second overtime period Saturday.
UMO sent the game into extra periods when Josh Gibson drilled home a loose ball with just 3:40 left in regulation. The shot capped a big rally for the Trojans, who had trailed 2-0 seven minutes into the match and 3-1 at intermission.
Richard Wolf had given USC Aiken its early advantage when he scored less than two minutes into the match off an assist from
Craig Hansel, then pushed a header past MOC's keeper five minutes later.
UMO cut the deficit to 2-1 in the 20
th minute. However, the Pacers regained their two-goal advantage in the 40
th minute when
Adam Williams scored from the left wing on an assist from Wolf.
USC Aiken enjoyed an 11-7 shot advantage in the first half, but was held to just six more shots in the second half and overtime periods.
