WINGATE, N.C. – Freshman Jan Myer scored the first three goals of her career in less than 10 minutes to close the first half and junior Laura Regalbuto scored the opening two goals of the game, as the Wingate women's soccer team defeated USC Aiken 10-1 in non-conference soccer action this afternoon at the Wingate University soccer complex.
Youth was a theme on the day as Myer's classmates, Becky Blankenship, Marie Hadinger and Courtney Maher each added goals. Sophomore Shelly Faulkner and junior Darcy Kuykendall each added second-half goals for the Bulldogs.
Myer recorded two assists to go along with her hat trick, and sophomore Maria Regalbuto and Hadinger also dished out two assists. Jacqueline Francois provided the Pacers with their lone score.
The match was called at the 78:00 minute mark after injuries decimated the Pacers roster. The Bulldogs outshot the Pacers, 47-1. USC Aiken keeper
Gretchen Honaker made 19 saves in the losing effort. Kristen Agnew and Laura Regalbuto shared time in goal for the Bulldogs. Neither one recorded a save.
