Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

USCA Falls To No. 14 Columbus State, 1-0

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 contest to No. 14 Columbus State Sunday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 4-8-1 on the season, including 2-4 in PBC play. The Cougars stand at 9-2-2 on the year and 5-0-2 against conference foes.

Head coach Adam Kleman's team placed a shot on goal just 1:43 into the contest. Greta Ohlwein rocketed an attempt toward the goal, but it was saved.

USCA trailed 1-0 after a penalty kick. However, the squad had a tremendous opportunity moments later. After a cross from the end-line to the far side of the goal, Isabella Recalde placed a shot toward the lower left of the frame. The Cougars managed to come up with the stop, keeping the score at 1-0 in the 21st minute.

With just over 15 minutes remaining in the half, CSU had a break-away. The visitors got the ball in the box, but Savannah Yerger stopped the attempt at point-blank range. At the 36-minute mark, Yerger had another sensational save from a shot from 20 yards out.

Leah Casolaro had a shot at the 42:07 mark, but it missed wide as the score remained the same entering the second half.

CSU had several opportunities in the early going of the second half, but the defense continued to not give them solid chances. When the Cougars had shots on frame, Yerger was up for the challenge.

In the 79th minute, Gabriella Maddalena's attempt sailed just high of the crossbar. It marked the team's lone shot in the second half.

For the match, USCA had four shots in the contest, including two on goal. Yerger played all 90 minutes in goal and had 11 saves.

Ohlwein and Recalde each had shots on goal while Casolaro and Maddalena had shots.

The Pacers return to action Wednesday when they travel to Flagler at 4 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
