AIKEN, S.C. – The USC Aiken women's soccer team opened their first ever season with a 5-5 tie to Mount Olive College. The Lady Pacdrs were led by freshman Jacqueline Francois, who scored the first four goals for USCA. Franoics, from London, Ontario Canada, connected for a goal in each of her first three shots and finished with eight shots for the game.
Former USCA basketball player,
Jessica Scarlato, scored the fifth goal for USC Aiken.
USCA jumped out to a 3-2 lead in the first half and was controlling the game till 1:25 left, when Mount Olive's Heid Aubin connected on her third goal of the game to tie the score. The Trojans out shot the Lady Pacers 16-12 on the afternoon.
In the second game of the doubleheader, the USCA men's team fell to Mount Olive 2-1. The Trojans got on the board first, when Keith London got a shot by USCA goalie
Dave Joyce at the 31:11 mark.
The Pacers countered six minutes later with a goal from senior
Brad Saenz (assist
Will Emery). But with 5:36 left in the first half, Angelo Williams broke up the middle and knocked one in the net to take the lead for good.
USCA led in total shots with 13 to the Trojans three. Mount Olive's goalie, Brad Miller, highlighted the game with 11 saves.
Next women's game is at home on Sept. 6 vs. Pfeiffer at 4:30 p.m. and the next men's game is Sept. 3 at Charleston Southern at 4 p.m.
