University of South Carolina Aiken men’s tennis standout Alvaro Garcia Gil has been named the South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Student-Athlete of the Month for April.

Garcia Gil is a 5-7 sophomore from Logrono, Spain. His outstanding play helped the Pacers earn their fourth consecutive NCAA Tournament berth.

During April, he guided the squad to a 6-1 overall record.

Garcia Gil went a combined 13-2 during the month. In singles action, he posted victories over three top-25 teams. Garcia Gil went 3-0 at No. 4, 1-0 at No. 2 and 2-1 at the No. 3 spot.

In doubles action, Garcia Gil teamed up with his partner and went a combined 7-1. The duo went 6-1 at No. 3 and 1-0 at No. 2. In all, they went unbeaten against three nationally-ranked programs.

Garcia Gil helped the Pacers to a 16-6 record heading into the NCAA Tournament as the No. 4 seed in the NCAA Southeast Regional.

The South Carolina Education Lottery USC Aiken Athletic Department Student-Athlete of the Month award honors one student-athlete each month from an in-season sport for their hard work and effort. Each month during the 2017-18 athletic year one winner will be chosen from an in-season sport.
