WINGATE, N.C. – The USCA women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 2-1 match at Wingate Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 1-2 on the season while the Bulldogs stand at 2-1.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's squad trailed 1-0 as the Bulldogs got on the board in the 22
nd minute of action. Just two minutes later,
Greta Ohlwein placed a shot on goal, but it was stopped by the keeper. In the 27
th minute of play,
Ruby Scott blasted an attempt, but it missed high of the frame.
Isabella Recalde, who entered the match in the 24
th minute, pushed forward and knotted the match in the 31
st minute of play. At the 30:46 mark, she blasted an attempt to the lower left side of the frame. Recalde's attempt found the back of the net, making the score 1-1. It marked her first career goal.
With
Savannah Yerger making multiple saves in the waning moments of the first half, Kleman's team and Wingate remained deadlocked at halftime.
Twelve minutes into the second period,
Leah Casolaro's shot was blocked. After a save by Yerger, Ohlwein recorded a pair of attempts. The first one was blocked and the second wound up being saved, keeping the score tied.
At the 73:24 mark, Wingate took a penalty kick and Yerger was up for the challenge. She promptly turned away the attempt by the Bulldogs. However, Wingate scored in the 75
th minute.
USCA placed two more shots on goal in the final 12 minutes – one by
Gabriella Maddalena and another from Scott, but each attempt was stopped by the keeper.
For the match, Recalde scored on her lone shot. Ohlwein posted three shots, including two on goal. Scott tallied two shots, with one being on frame. Maddalena had a shot on goal while Casolaro recorded a shot.
Between the pipes, Yerger accounted for seven saves.
USCA registered eight shots, including five on goal, for the contest. The team also earned five corner kicks.
