AIKEN, S.C. - The USCA women's soccer team registered a 3-0 shutout of North Greenville Saturday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-2 on the season while the Trailblazers fall to 0-3.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's squad jumped on top in the early going. The aggressor from the outset, USCA blasted a pair of attempts in the first four minutes of action – coming off the boot of
Emma Gause and
Greta Ohlwein. At the 4:17 mark,
Reese Agnew connected on a beautiful goal off a double assist from
Ruby Scott and Ohlwein for the one-goal advantage.
Ohlwein,
Olivia Pia and
Isabella Recalde all placed shots on frame within a three-minute span. However, the keeper made saves on the attempts. In the 19
th minute of action,
Savannah Yerger turned away a point-blank shot, keeping the visitors off the scoreboard.
Kateyln Ensley posted a shot on target at the 24:06 mark. Within a 90-second span, Ohlwein notched back-to-back shots. However, all three attempts were thwarted.
Yerger turned away an attempt in the final minute of the period, keeping the contest at 1-0 entering the second half.
Moments into the second period,
Gabriella Maddalena made a sensational cross into the box where Ohlwein one-timed it past the keeper for a 2-0 advantage.
USCA controlled the ball for much of the second half. With 8:32 to go, Ohlwein stole a pass from 28 yards out. She promptly lobbed it over the keeper for a 3-0 edge. It marked her fifth point of the evening.
The Pacers had opportunities to increase the margin in the waning moments, but Maddalena's attempt was saved and she missed one narrowly of the post.
For the match, USCA held a 22-10 edge in shots, including an 11-4 margin on goal.
Maddalena recorded three shots while Pia and Recalde notched two each.
Ellen Van Caenegem had three shots while Gause totaled two.
Yerger played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped four shots for the shutout.
