DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The USCA women's soccer team lost a hard-fought 2-1 decision at No. 13 North Georgia Saturday afternoon in a PBC contest.
The Pacers are now 2-5-1 on the season, including an 0-1 ledger in PBC play.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team put forth a tremendous defensive effort. Just 76 seconds into the match,
Savannah Yerger turned away the Nighthawks. She was challenged again in the seventh minute but promptly thwarted the attempt.
UNG had a shot on goal in the 13
th minute of play, but Yerger was up to the challenge. After an attempt was blocked at the 16:03 mark, Yerger saved a shot on frame just 42 seconds later.
The home team got on the board in the 24
th minute for a 1-0 edge. Moments later, Yerger stumped the opposition with another save. The Pacers' defense continued to challenge the Nighthawks' offense, limiting chances. Kleman's team blocked two shots late in the half before Yerger stalled the offense twice more in the waning moments of the period. The outstanding job by the defense kept the contest at 1-0 entering the second half.
After an extended halftime, USCA pushed forward in the opening moments of the second stanza.
Emma Gause blasted an attempt toward the goal, but it was blocked. In the 53
rd minute,
Layne Frericks launched a shot, but it missed high.
The Nighthawks added a late goal for the 2-0 lead, but Kleman's team continued to battle. In the 86
th minute,
Ruby Scott found
Greta Ohlwein, who rocketed a shot to the top left of the frame. The ball found the back of the net, slicing the deficit to one, 2-1.
For the match, Ohlwein scored a goal and Scott dished out an assist. Frericks and Gause each had a shot. Yerger played all 90 minutes and stopped nine shots.
