MORROW, Ga. – The USCA women's soccer team dropped a hard-fought 1-0 contest at Clayton State Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-6-1 on the year and 0-2 against PBC foes.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team was aggressive seconds into the match as
Emma Gause blasted an attempt that missed left of the post. In the fourth minute,
Savannah Yerger promptly turned away an attempt, keeping the contest scoreless.
Gabriella Maddalena had a pair of shots thwarted by the keeper in the early going.
Olivia Pia had an attempt blocked while
Ellie Thompson's shot was left of the frame just past the midway point of the half. In the 26
th minute,
Ruby Scott had a shot on goal.
The Pacers continued applying pressure in the offensive third as
Greta Ohlwein's attempt missed wide and
Addison Logsdon registered a shot on goal in the 41
st minute. A save by Yerger on an attempt by the Lakers left the contest at 0-0 entering the second period.
USCA registered the first four shots of the ensuing stanza. Ohlwein's attempt was blocked while
Layne Frericks missed high.
Gillian Young's shot was saved and Scott missed high.
Klaman's team was whistled for a foul in the box in the 64
th minute and the Lakers converted the penalty kick for a 1-0 lead.
The Pacers tried to knot the score in the 70
th minute of play, but Thompson's attempt was stopped by the keeper. Young's shot sailed right of the goal. Frericks, Young and Maddalena all placed shots on target within a three-minute span. However, all three were stopped by the keeper. In the final minute, USCA made a brilliant play into the box, but the team was unable to record a shot.
For the match, Yerger played all 90 minutes in goal and had three saves. Maddalena had three shots on goal while Young posted three shots, including two on frame. Frericks, Scott and Thompson each had two shots with one being on goal. Ohlwein also tallied a pair of shots in the match. Gause, Logsdon and Pia all recorded attempts. Logsdon's shot was on goal.
Kleman's team held a 17-8 advantage in shots, including 9-4 on goal. The team earned five corner kicks.
