COCHRAN, Ga. – The USCA men's soccer team lost a 3-1 decision at Middle Georgia Saturday afternoon in a league contest.
The Pacers are now 1-4 on the year and 0-3 against conference competition.
Head coach
Nick Sakiewicz's squad fell behind 1-0 in the 10
th minute of action. USCA quickly tried to even the contest, but
Riad Zitouni's shot was blocked.
After a save by
Sean Simoncelli, the Pacers went on the attack.
Alvaro Corcuera and
Frankie Martinez each had shots that were saved. Simoncelli thwarted two more attempts by the Knights, keeping the score at 1-0.
In the 30
th minute, Martinez's shot missed left of the frame.
Melvin Maboungou and
Abdoulie Jallow each had shots that were blocked before
Emilio Roman's attempt missed just right of the post in the 38
th minute of action. Simoncelli had another save in the 39
th minute.
At the 54:47 mark,
Emilio Roman found
Kenny Kwizera Jr., who promptly rocketed the ball past the keeper, tying the match at 1-1.
Middle Georgia regained the lead with a goal in the 67
th minute and tacked on the third score of the afternoon at the 72:30 mark for a 3-1 edge.
Carlos Colomer's shot in the 76
th minute missed high of the crossbar. Four minutes later,
Julien Tubbs launched a shot on frame, but it was stopped. Sakiewicz's squad earned a pair of corner kicks in the ensuing minute, but neither resulted in a shot.
For the match, USCA accounted for 17 shots compared to 13 by the Knights. The Pacers placed four shots on goal and earned four corner kicks. Corcuera had three shots, including one on goal. Kwizera and Martinez each had two shots, with one being on target. Colomer, Maboungou and Roman each had a pair of shots.
Between the pipes, Simoncelli played all 90 minutes and stopped seven shots.
