AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw at USC Upstate Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 2-4-1 on the year.
It marked the first tie between the programs since a 3-3 contest on Sept. 30, 2000, in Aiken, S.C.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team was challenged just 6:03 into the match, but
Savannah Yerger turned away the shot on goal. USCA's defense blocked an attempt in the 20
th minute before another shot on goal was thwarted by the defense at the 20:11 mark.
In the 38
th minute of action,
Isabella Gesmondi rocketed a shot on frame, but it was saved. Gesmondi rocketed another attempt at the 43:13 mark, missing high, as the contest was scoreless entering the second period.
The Pacers were the aggressor in the early going of the second period.
Katelyn Ensley and
Greta Ohlwein each had shots that sailed high of the frame in the first seven minutes.
Riley Sweetland started the second half between the pipes and promptly stopped a pair of shots within a five-minute span. Sweetland secured the tie with the final stop of the night. At the 89:20 mark, Sweetland turned away Liana Bryant's shot that was to the lower right of the goal.
For the match, Gesmondi led the way with two shots, including one on target. Ensley and Ohlwein recorded attempts.
Yerger got the start and played 45 minutes. She had one save. Sweetland played the final 45 minutes in goal and had four saves.
