Pacers Pick Up Home Win Over Flying Fleet

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's soccer team recorded a 4-2 victory over Erskine Tuesday evening in the home opener.

The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season while the Flying Fleet drop to 0-1-1.

Head coach Nick Sakiewicz's team jumped on top of the Flying Fleet at the 8:05 mark. Kenny Kwizera Jr. played the ball into the box and Abdoulie Jallow promptly rocketed the ball into the back of the frame, for the 1-0 advantage.

USCA continued to be aggressive in the opening stanza, but the visitors were able to keep the home squad from tacking onto the lead. At the 25:07 mark, Erskine knotted the match on a penalty kick. The Pacers quickly responded. After relentless pressure in the offensive third, Jallow found Frankie Martinez inside the box in the 35th minute of action. Martinez ripped the shot past the keeper for the one-goal margin, 2-1.

Sakiewicz's squad extended the lead to 3-1 in the 43rd minute of play. Carlos Colomer connected with William Poirier for his first goal of the year.

Just after intermission, the Pacers raced past the Flying Fleet and tacked on the fourth score of the match. Kwizera Jr. put forth a well-placed pass for Riad Zitouni, who quickly found the back of the net at the 45:28 mark.

Sean Simoncelli recorded a beautiful save on a penalty kick in the 63rd minute, but Erskine managed to score just after the stop, making it 4-2.

For the match, USCA had 15 shots compared to 11 by the Flying Fleet. Between the pipes, Simoncelli notched a pair of saves.

The Pacers return to action Saturday, Sept. 12, when they open PBC play at North Georgia at 5 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
