AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team opened the home portion of the slate with an outstanding 2-0 victory over Mount Olive Sunday afternoon at the new soccer stadium.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season.
In the first match at the new stadium, head coach
Adam Kleman's team jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third minute of action.
Emma Gause registered her first career goal as
Olivia Pia and
Greta Ohlwein garnered assists on the play.
Savannah Yerger turned away a pair of shots by the Trojans in the 15
th and 16
th minutes, respectively, keeping the contest at 1-0.
USCA went on the attack in the 23
rd minute, but Gause's attempt missed wide. A minute later,
Gabriella Maddalena's shot on frame was thwarted by the keeper.
Ellie Thompson placed a shot on goal at the 37:40 mark, but it was saved by the keeper.
Kleman's squad went on the attack in the early going of the second stanza. In the 60
th minute, USCA earned a corner kick.
Gillian Young played the ball to the far side of the box where
Layne Frericks headed it home for the two-goal advantage.
Yerger stopped a pair of close-range shots in succession, preserving the shutout. Maddalena's attempt was saved in the 76
th minute.
For the match, Yerger recorded seven saves in the shutout.
Frericks and Gause each had goals while Ohlwein, Pia and Young notched assists in the win.
