USCA Drops Season-Opening Match At Francis Marion

FLORENCE, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team lost a 4-1 contest at region foe Francis Marion Thursday afternoon in the season-opening match.

The Pacers are now 0-1 on the season while the Patriots stand at 1-0.

Head coach Adam Kleman's squad trailed 1-0 at the 4:58 mark, but USCA quickly went on the attack. At the 10:41 mark, Greta Ohlwein found newcomer Olivia Pia, who promptly rocketed a shot into the upper right side of the frame for the equalizer. It marked Pia's first career goal.

Ohlwein nearly gave the Pacers a 2-1 lead three minutes later, but her attempt was thwarted by the keeper. Ruby Scott's attempt was blocked. The Patriots netted a goal in the 20th minute for a 2-1 edge. USCA was unable to register another shot despite maintaining solid possession the rest of the period.

FMU netted a goal in the 47th minute of action and another at the 58:26 mark for the final tally.

For the match, the Pacers totaled three shots, including two on frame. The offense earned three corner kicks. Pia found the back of the net in her first career attempt while Ohlwein had an assist. Ohlwein had a shot on goal and Scott accounted for a shot. In the net, Savannah Yerger played all 80:11 and picked up five saves.

Due to lightning at the 80:11 mark, the match was declared final.

The Pacers return to action Sunday, Aug. 30, when they host Mount Olive at the new soccer stadium starting at 4:30 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
