FLORENCE, S.C. – The USCA baseball team plated two runs in the top of the ninth to secure the 10-8 victory at No. 6/8 Francis Marion Tuesday evening.
The Pacers improve to 34-13 on the season while the Patriots fall to 37-10.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team got on the board in the third stanza.
Donovan Glisson led off the frame with a single to left field and moved to second on
Osmin Melendez's bunt single with one down.
Evan Harding roped a double down the left field line, making it 1-0. Melendez scored on a groundout by
Chancellor Jennings.
Yariel Diaz belted a single up the middle, plating Harding for a 3-0 advantage.
Up 3-2 in the fourth,
Maverick Grigsby pushed a single through the right side and took second on Glisson's base knock. After a fielder's choice left runners on first and third, Melendez doubled home Grigsby and
Cannon Frost. Harding's single knocked in Melendez for a 6-2 margin.
Gorman's squad added to the lead in the fifth.
Blake Martin recorded a one-out walk and hustled to third on
Salvatore Laimo's base hit to right field. Grigsby singled home Martin and Laimo crossed home on Glisson's sacrifice fly for a six-run edge.
Tied at 8-8 in the ninth, Martin recorded a one-out single and moved to second on Laimo's base hit. Grigsby's base knock loaded the bags for Glisson, who singled home Martin. Laimo crossed home on a throwing error on the play for a 10-8 lead.
For the game, Harding and Glisson each had three hits, drove in two and scored once. Grigsby tallied three hits, drove in one and scored once. Laimo, Martin and Melendez each had two hits. Melendez drove in two while Laimo, Martin and Melendez each crossed home twice.
On the mound,
Nick Napolitano went six innings and had two strikeouts.
Luke Norman threw two-thirds of an inning.
CJ Lincoln recorded 2.1 innings of shutout ball for the victory. He had a pair of strikeouts.
