MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The USCA baseball team lost a 13-8 decision at Georgia College Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 32-13 on the season, including 18-8 in PBC play.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team jumped on top with a pair of runs in the first inning.
Evan Harding drew a lead-off walk. Two batters later,
Yariel Diaz crushed an offering over the right center field wall for a 2-0 lead.
The Bobcats scored a run in the first, one in the second and three in the third for a 5-2 advantage. USCA struck with a run in the fourth.
Donovan Glisson recorded a one-out double down the left field line. After taking third on a groundout, Harding's base knock allowed Glisson to race home.
An inning later, USCA regained the advantage.
Blake Martin was hit by a pitch and promptly swiped second base.
Salvatore Laimo's single put runners on first and third. A wild pitch allowed Laimo to move into scoring position. Two batters later,
Johann Rodriguez's single plated Martin. A double steal with Rodriguez and Laimo made the score 5-5. Glisson's sacrifice fly pushed the margin to 6-5 as Rodríguez crossed home plate.
GCSU scored two runs in the fifth, three in the sixth and three in the seventh for a 13-6 margin.
USCA added a pair of runs in the ninth. With one down, Laimo walked. With two down,
Cannon Frost entered as a pinch hitter and singled to third base. Glisson's base hit drove in Laimo.
Doom Dennis reached on an error, allowing Forst to cross home plate. However, a fielder's choice ended the game.
For the game, Glisson,
Chancellor Jennings and Laimo had two hits apiece. Diaz and Glisson each drove in two while Laimo scored twice. Diaz had a home run while Glisson posted a double.
On the mound,
Ben Shepherd worked 2.2 innings and had two strikeouts.
Kyle Stock recorded three strikeouts in three frames.
Luke Norman went one-third of an inning.
Will Eichler and
Reed Stygles each threw an inning. Eichler had one strikeout while Stygles had three.
