Pacers Cruise Past Bobcats In Series Opener

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The USCA baseball team jumped out to a 10-0 lead before posting a 15-5 victory at Georgia College Friday evening in the series-opening game.

The Pacers are now 32-12 on the year, including 18-7 in PBC play.

Head coach Keith Gorman's team jumped out to an early lead. In the second inning, Salvatore Laimo was hit by a pitch with one down. After a walk to Maverick Grigsby, he ended up on third due to a throwing error. Johann Rodriguez drove Laimo in off a base hit to left field. A Donovan Glisson single loaded the bases. Grigsby crossed home on a sacrifice fly by Osmin Melendez.

Chancellor Jennings registered a lead-off single in the third and scored on a two-run round-tripper by Blake Martin. Laimo drew a walk and later scored on a Rodriguez single, giving the visitors a 5-0 advantage. Moments later, Evan Harding ripped a single to right center field, knocking in Rodriguez and Glisson for a seven-run cushion while forcing a pitching change. With the bases loaded, Yariel Diaz walked. Martin was hit by a pitch, extending the margin to 9-0.

Gorman's team pushed the advantage to 10-0 in the fifth. Martin reached on a muffed throw and swiped second. He advanced to third on a throwing error before scoring on a sacrifice fly by Grigsby.

Leading 10-5 in the seventh, Glisson belted an offering to center field for a single. The base hit allowed Martin and Laimo to cross home plate. USCA pushed the margin to nine, 14-5, with two more runs in the eighth stanza. This time, Laimo rocketed a pitch to left field that scored Harding and Diaz. Rodriguez scored on a fielder's choice in the ninth for the team's final run.

It also marked Gorman's 500th career victory.

For the game, Harding and Martin each had two hits and drove in three. Glisson, Laimo and Rodriguez also had two hits. All three drove in two runs apiece. Laimo and Martin each scored three times while Harding and Rodriguez scored twice apiece. Martin had a home run while Diaz and Harding tallied doubles.

Ron Robinson had a strikeout while tossing two-thirds of an inning. Dylan Dickert worked the ninth and had two strikeouts in the win.
