Pacers Split Doubleheader Against Saints

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The USCA softball team split a doubleheader at Flagler, falling 1-0 before bouncing back for a 9-5 win in the nightcap.

The Pacers are now 14-10 on the season, including 1-1 in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team had a pair of student-athletes on base in the first as Kate Newberry reached on a fielder's choice and Chloe Webb singled up the middle, but a strikeout ended the threat.

Webb recorded a base hit to left center field in the fourth but back-to-back outs ended the stanza.  The Saints pushed across an unearned run in the bottom of the inning for a one-run lead.

Abbie Kegley reached on an error to lead off the fifth and was replaced by Taylor Erb as a pinch runner. Madison Rogers laid down a sacrifice bunt, pushing Erb to second. However, a double play completed the frame.

With two down in the top of the seventh, Lydia Johnson rocketed a pitch through the left side for a single. However, the Pacers were unable to score the tying run.

For the game, Webb had a pair of singles. Autumn Fisher and Johnson each had a hit.

In the circle, Kegley gave up one unearned run on two hits. She had four strikeouts and walked just one.

Game two saw the Saints take a 1-0 lead. However, Poole's team battled back in the third. Peri Rouillard singled through the left side and took second on a sacrifice bunt from Fisher. Three pitches later, Rouillard was able to trot home on Newberry's round-tripper.

Tied at 2-2 in the fourth, Johnson and Kaylee Bolding singled. Mollie Rollings reached on a fielder's choice and Johnson scored on an error. With runners on second and third, Rouillard singled home Bolding. Fisher's sacrifice fly drove in Rollings before Newberry singled home Rouillard for a 6-2 advantage.

Rouillard singled in Bolding to get the scoring going in the fifth. A wild pitch allowed Erb to cross home before Anna Turner scored on Fisher's sacrifice fly for a 9-2 edge. Erb had entered earlier as a pinch runner for Alexis Stout, who had singled up the middle.

For the game, Rouillard posted three hits, drove in two and scored twice. Newberry tallied two hits, including a home run, drove in three and scored. Johnson and Webb had two hits each. Fisher drove in two and Bolding crossed home twice.

In the circle, Ally Fleming went the distance to get the win. She had four strikeouts and gave up three earned runs on six hits.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the final game of the series at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
