AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA softball team lost a 4-3 decision to Georgia Southwestern in eight innings Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 17-14 on the year, including 2-5 in PBC play.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's squad fell behind 2-0 in the third frame. USCA threatened in the bottom half of the stanza.
Mollie Rollings singled up the middle and took second on a passed ball. After
Gracie Walker was hit by a pitch,
Peri Rouillard's sacrifice bunt put two in scoring position with only one away. However, a line drive out and a strikeout ended the inning.
Trailing 3-0 in the bottom of the fifth, Rollings drew a four-pitch walk but was erased on a fielder's choice that put Walker on first. Two batters later,
Autumn Fisher reached on a fielder's choice. An errant throw to second base allowed Walker to move to third. A fly ball ended the frame.
In the bottom of the seventh, Rollings laced a double down the left field line. With one down, Rouillard beat out a ball to the shortstop for an infield single. Pinch runner
Cassidy Neves took third on the play. Fisher rocketed a triple to left center field, bringing the Pacers within one, 3-2.
Kate Newberry recorded a bloop single barely into center field, knotting the score.
The Hurricanes pushed across a run in the eighth for the win.
For the game, Fisher recorded a triple and drove in two. Rollings tallied a pair of hits. Rouillard, Newberry, Rouse and
Kaylee Bolding posted base knocks. Fisher, Neves and Rouillard all crossed home.

Abbie Kegley had nine strikeouts in the complete-game effort.
