AIKEN, S.C. – Behind two outstanding pitching performances, the USCA softball team swept Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon by scores of 9-0 and 3-0.
The Pacers are now 19-14 on the season, including 4-5 in PBC play.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's squad jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead.
Peri Rouillard drew a lead-off walk and took second on
Autumn Fisher's base knock up the middle.
Chloe Webb rocketed an offering to right field, plating Rouillard and Fisher.
In the second,
Lydia Johnson singled to the shortstop and hustled to second on a wild pitch. After a walk to
Mollie Rollings.
Anna Turner laid down a sensational sacrifice bunt, putting two in scoring position. Rouillard walked and two batters later,
Kate Newberry blasted a double to center field, allowing all three base runners to cross home for a 5-0 advantage. After a pitching change, Webb blasted a pitch up the middle, which allowed Newberry to race home.
Madilyn Rouse hammered a pitch over the left field wall for an 8-0 advantage.
Lydia Johnson led off the third with a single and scampered to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Mollie Rollings. Johnson scored when
Anna Turner reached on an error for a nine-run cushion.
For the game, Webb tallied two hits and drove in three. Rouse drove in two and had two base knocks. Johnson totaled two hits and scored twice. Newberry posted three RBI while Rouillard scored twice.
In the circle, Radford had a perfect game entering the fifth inning. She finished with three strikeouts and gave up just two hits in the shutout.
Game two saw the Pacers snag a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Fisher earned a one-out walk and took second on Newberry's groundout. Webb tripled down the right field line for the one-run margin. USCA extended the lead to 2-0 in the third. Fisher walked and swiped second base. She scored on Newberry's double down the left field line.
USCA pushed across a run in the third.
Kaylee Bolding and Johnson laid down bunts. Bolding moved to third on a throwing error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Rollings.
For the game, Bolding, Newberry and Rollings had two hits apiece. Webb notched a triple while Newberry had a double. Fisher crossed home twice.
In the circle,
Ally Fleming tossed a complete game and gave up just four hits. She had one strikeout in the victory.
