DAHLONEGA, Ga. – The USCA softball team lost a 2-0 decision at No. 5 North Georgia Friday evening in the first game of the league series.
The Pacers are now 15-11 on the year, including 2-2 in PBC play.
Head coach
Jaclin Poole's team had a chance to take a lead in the top of the first. With two away,
Kate Newberry drew a four-pitch walk.
Chloe Webb recorded an infield single before
Madilyn Rouse was hit by a pitch. However, a strikeout ended the inning.
The Nighthawks scored an unearned run in the bottom of the first and tacked on a single run in the third for a 2-0 advantage.
With one down in the fifth,
Mollie Rollings rocketed a full-count offering through the left side for a hit. Two pitches later,
Anna Turner ripped a pitch to right field, putting two on. However, a fielder's choice and a pop-up ended the stanza.
In the sixth, Newberry posted a single to left field and
Taylor Erb entered as a pinch runner. She took second on Webb's sacrifice bunt. A groundout and a strikeout concluded the inning.
USCA was unable to get a runner on base in the seventh.
For the game, Newberry, Rollins, Turner and Webb recorded hits. Newberry and
Peri Rouillard each drew walks.
In the circle,
Abbie Kegley went the distance. She gave up two runs, but only one was earned, on three hits. Kegley struck out four and walked four while throwing 83 pitches.
