ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – The USCA baseball team wrapped up a sweep at Flagler with a 10-6 victory Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers improve to 14-4 on the season, including 5-1 in PBC play.
Chancellor Jennings opened the game with a base knock through the right side of the infield.
Donovan Glisson picked up a hit and
Yariel Diaz drew a walk to load the bases. Jennings scored on a double play, making it 1-0.
Salvatore Laimo singled in Glisson for a two-run cushion.
Leading 2-1 in the fourth,
Maverick Grigsby poked the first pitch he saw into center field.
Johann Rodriguez singled and
Cameron Austin Jr., grounded out, putting runners on second and third.
Osmin Melendez singled in Grigsby and Rodriguez scored on a sacrifice fly by Jennings.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team pushed the lead to 5-1 in the sixth. Rodriguez was hit by a pitch and took second on a bunt by Austin Jr. Melendez blasted a double to left center field, plating Rodriguez.
In the sixth, Diaz got things going with a lead-off single and moved to third on a one-out base knock by Laimo. He swiped second and Diaz scored on a throwing error. Rodriguez's double to right field allowed Laimo to cross home for a six-run cushion.
The Saints produced five runs in the bottom of the sixth, closing the gap to one, 7-6.
Gorman's squad pushed the score to 10-6 in the ninth. Diaz and
Blake Martin each singled. With two down and both runners in scoring position, Rodriguez singled home Diaz. Austin Jr., followed it up with a base knock to left, driving in Martin. Melendez knocked in Rodriguez with a single to the gap in right center field for a four-run advantage.
For the game, Laimo, Melendez and Rodriguez had three hits apiece. Melendez drove in three while Rodriguez knocked in two. Rodriguez scored three times and Diaz crossed home twice. Diaz and Martin each had two hits.
On the mound,
Ben Shepherd worked six frames and had a strikeout.
Nick Napolitano worked one-third of an inning before
Dylan Dickert worked 1.2 innings while
CJ Lincoln entered with a base runner on in the ninth and proceeded to get the final three outs.
