Pacers Best Cobras In Extra Innings

AIKEN, S.C. – Yariel Diaz drew a bases loaded walk, knocking in Cannon Jones as the USCA baseball team registered an 8-7 come-from-behind 10-inning win Wednesday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 9-2 on the season.

Head coach Keith Gorman's team trailed 3-0 before posting a pair of runs in the third stanza. Blake Martin and Donovan Glisson each singled to the shortstop. After a groundout pushed them up 90 feet, Maverick Grigsby ripped a base knock up the middle, plating a pair of Pacers.

However, the Cobras struck for a run in the fourth, one in the sixth and two in the seventh for a 7-2 margin. In the bottom of the frame, Evan Harding earned a one-out walk as did Chancellor Jennings. After a pitching change, Diaz belted a single through the left side, plating Harding.

Salvatore Laimo drew a one-out walk in the eighth and moved to second on a groundout. Ryan Becker belted a single through the right side, knocking in Laimo, bringing the squad within three, 7-4.

Gorman's team got things going in the bottom of the ninth. Harding was hit by a pitch. With two outs, Martin singled through the left side before Glisson registered an infield hit to third base, loading the bags. A balk allowed Harding to trot home, making it 7-5. Laimo singled in Martin and Glisson, knotting the score at 7-7.

Doom Dennis led off the 10th with a single and Cannon Jones entered as a pinch runner. Harding singled, putting runners on the corner. Jennings was intentionally walked before Diaz drew the game-winning base on balls.

For the game, Diaz, Glisson and Martin had two hits apiece. Diaz, Grigsby and Laimo had two RBI. Glisson, Harding and Martin each scored twice.

On the mound, Dylan Dickert got the start and worked two frames with a strikeout. Luke Norman also tossed two innings and had a strikeout. Dante Onorato threw 2.2 innings and had four strikeouts. Ron Robinson worked 1.1 innings with a strikeout while CJ Lincoln picked up the win after recording two strikeouts in two innings pitched.
