COCHRAN, Ga. - The USCA baseball team cruised to a 12-0 win at Middle Georgia Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 10-2 on the season, including 1-0 in PBC play. The Knights are now 4-9 overall and 1-3 in league action.
Head coach
Keith Gorman's team jumped on top of the Knights in the second inning. With one down,
Donovan Glisson roped a pitch up the middle. Two batters later,
Maverick Grigsby's base knock put runners on the corners. After Grigsby stole second,
Joshua Johnson registered a single into center field for a quick 2-0 advantage.
USCA pushed the margin to 3-0 in the fifth. With two down,
Chancellor Jennings blasted a home run over the left field wall. Jennings reached on an error in the seventh and scored on
Yariel Diaz's base hit up the middle for a four-run cushion.
Gorman's offense struck again in the eighth when a bases loaded walk to
Osmin Melendez allowed
Salvatore Laimo to trot home.
Evan Harding walked after a pitching change, plating Grigsby. Jennings increased the margin to 8-0 on a single up the middle knocking in
Cannon Frost and Melendez. Diaz doubled in Harding for a nine-run advantage.
In the ninth, Grigsby scored on a base hit by Melendez. Frost crossed the plate on a groundout for an 11-0 lead and a wild pitch allowed Melendez to race home moments later.
For the game, Diaz, Glisson and Jennings had three hits apiece. Jennings was a double shy of hitting for the cycle and led the way with three RBI. Diaz, Melendez, Harding and Johnson had two RBI each. Grigsby scored three times while Frost, Jennings and Melendez crossed home twice apiece.
On the mound,
Joseph Rauscher went seven frames and had six strikeouts. He did not allow a run and gave up just three hits and four walks.
Will Eichler worked two innings and had a strikeout in the shutout victory.
