AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's basketball team lost a 64-47 decision to Middle Georgia Friday evening.
The Pacers are now 6-14 on the season, including 3-9 in PBC play.
Head coach
Brittany Batts' team was led by
Zenia Palaska's 12 points and six rebounds.
Monique Emelifeonwu had nine points and six boards while
Mahkayla Premo tallied nine points and three steals.
Mackenna Nix and
Ioanna Stefanaki had five points apiece.
Makaylei Snyder chipped in three points while
Kristen Auguste and
Morgan McDermott had two points apiece.
Back-to-back three-point shots from Snyder and Nix gave USCA an early 8-1 advantage. Up 8-4, Palaska hit free throws for an eight-point cushion. McDermott's lay-up off a pass from Premo pushed the margin to 16-8 en route to a four-point edge entering the second quarter.
Trailing 24-18, Palaska canned back-to-back lay-ups. Stefanaki tied the contest with two charity tosses at the 4:16 mark. Stefanaki found Emelifeonwu for a three-ball, giving Batts' team a 29-26 edge. Premo's bucket with 43 ticks on the clock propelled the Pacers to a 36-32 lead at intermission.
The Knights took a 48-38 lead before Premo hit a jumper at the 3:51 mark of the third quarter. Premo's basket with 17 ticks on the clock made it 53-44 entering the final quarter.
Premo took a pass from Nix for a three-point shot at the 8:14 mark to bring the squad within eight, 55-47, but that was as close as the team could get the rest of the way.
For the game, USCA hit 16-of-55 from the floor, including five-of-26 from the three-point line. The squad buried 10-of-12 from the foul line. The Pacers snagged 27 rebounds and forced 16 turnovers. The team netted 20 points in the paint and had six second-chance points.
