AUGUSTA, Ga. – The USCA men's basketball team used stellar all-around performances for a 75-71 win at Augusta Wednesday evening.
The Pacers are now 8-8 on the season, including 3-5 in PBC play. The Jaguars fall to 8-11 on the year and 3-6 in conference action.
Head coach
Mark Vanderslice's squad was led by
McCaskill Rivers' career-high 25 points.
Jonah Lawrence added a career-best 23 points and 10 rebounds while
Caleb Byrd tallied 11 markers.
Chedlet Delva had a career-best eight points to go along with nine rebounds.
Josiah Harding added four points while
Cam Perkins and
Deandre Smart had two apiece.
USCA jumped on top with a bucket from Rivers at the 16:46 mark for the first two points of the game. Rivers continued his solid first half with four charity tosses for a 6-0 advantage. Leading 8-6, Delva netted the next eight points for a 10-point cushion, 16-6. Rivers gave USCA a 20-12 lead with a bucket off a pass from Byrd with 7:32 to play. With 5:21 to go, Harding's lay-up extended the margin to 10, 25-15. Vanderslice's team maintained a 30-26 advantage at the break.
Byrd scored the first five points of the second stanza, including a three-point shot at the 17:44 mark. Up 35-30, Lawrence drilled four straight free throws. Lawrence's three-point play with 15:03 to go pushed the Pacers' lead to 42-33.
After AU cut the margin to six, 50-44, Byrd sliced through the defense for a lay-up. Rivers hit a pair of foul shots before Lawrence converted an old-fashioned three-point play for a 57-44 margin with 6:29 to go.
USCA kept the home team at bay. The Pacers continued to bury their free throws down the stretch, ensuring the win.
For the game, USCA hit 20-of-47 from the floor. The squad buried 33-of-35 free throws. The Pacers grabbed 38 rebounds and scored 28 points in the paint. The team also had 11 second-chance points. USCA held the lead the entire game.
