AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team lost a 2-0 decision to Francis Marion Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1 on the season while the Patriots stand at 1-0.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team fought off four early shots on goal by the visitors as
Savannah Yerger was up for the challenge.
In the 13
th minute,
Greta Ohlwein took a corner kick for USCA. Seconds later,
Isabella Recalde blasted a shot, but it sailed high of the frame. In the 17
th minute of action,
Ashtyn Ivey's shot on goal was thwarted by the keeper.
FMU broke through with a goal in the 29
th minute, but Kleman's team continued to push forward. In the 40
th minute of play, the Pacers had a pair of corner kicks. The team earned another one a moment later, but none of the three resulted in a shot. Just before intermission,
Samantha Koneval's attempt missed wide of the frame.
Yerger turned away four shots on goal by the Patriots in the first 17 minutes of action in the second period, keeping the contest at 1-0.
USCA tried to knot the score in the 77
th minute, but
Lexi Blasberg's shot was saved by the keeper.
FMU pushed the margin to 2-0 in the 83
rd minute of action.
For the match, USCA accounted for five shots, with two being on goal. The team earned four corner kicks.
Between the pipes, Yerger stopped 11 shots. Blasberg and Ivey had shots on frame for Kelman's team.
