SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The USCA women's soccer team picked up a 2-1 victory at Converse Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 2-1 on the young season.
Head coach
Adam Kleman's team jumped on top in the 13
th minute of play when
Haley Howell found
Greta Ohlwein, who promptly blasted a shot past the keeper for a 1-0 edge.
USCA maintained the advantage into the second period as
Savannah Yerger turned away an attempt moments after the goal, keeping it at 1-0.
Lexi Blasberg had a pair of shots that missed wide in the early going of the second period, but the Pacers capitalized when
Ashtyn Ivey rocketed home a shot to the high left of the frame for the two-goal margin.
Converse countered with a score of its own at the 60:52 mark, but Kleman's squad was up for the challenge the rest of the way.
The Pacers nearly pushed the margin to 3-1 in the 87
th minute, but Ivey's attempt was thwarted by the keeper. Ohlwein's shot on goal was stopped at the 88:54 mark. However, USCA's defense was strong enough to not allow a shot by the home team in the final minute, securing the one-goal victory.
Ohlwein led the way with five shots, including four on goal. Ivey had three shots, including three on target. Blasberg had a pair of shots while Howell had an assist.
Isabella Gesmondi also accounted for a shot in the contest.
Yerger was solid between the pipes, playing all 90 minutes. She had three saves.
For the match, USCA tallied two goals on 11 shots. The squad registered seven shots on goal and had a pair of corner kicks.
