MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. –
Shy Iles found the back of the net 1:39 into the match and that was enough as the USCA women's soccer team bested Mount Olive 1-0 Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 3-1 on the season.
Iles pushed the margin to 1-0 just 99 seconds into the match. She rocketed an attempt to the lower left of the goal for the advantage off a pass from
Greta Ohlwein for the score.
UMO had a shot on goal in the ninth minute, but
Savannah Yerger thwarted the attempt. The Trojans took multiple shots, but none were on frame until the 32:35 mark. Yerger turned away another shot, keeping the home team off the board.
In the 66
th minute,
Isabella Gesmondi blasted a shot, but it sailed high of the crossbar. Moments later,
Ellie Thompson's shot on frame was stopped by the keeper. In the 73
rd minute, Thompson took another shot, but it missed just left of the frame.
USCA had two more shots on goal in the final 10 minutes of action – one from Bella Recalde and another from
Payton Bates. However, UMO managed to save both shots.
For the match, head coach
Adam Kleman's team posted six shots, including four on goal. Each team had three corner kicks.
Yerger played all 90 minutes between the pipes and stopped six shots for the clean sheet.
