USCA Plays To Scoreless Draw At Lees-McRae

BANNER ELK, N.C. – The USCA men's soccer team recorded a scoreless tie at Lees-McRae Thursday afternoon in the season opener for both teams.

The Pacers are now 0-0-1 on the year.

Head coach Nick Sakiewicz's team was the aggressor in the contest, totaling 14 shots, including five on frame. LMC totaled nine shots, including two on target.

The Pacers earned 11 corner kicks compared to just four by the home squad. The Pacers notched 10 corner kicks in the final 45 minutes of action.

Sean Simoncelli played all 90 minutes between the pipes and had a pair of saves. 

Sakiewicz's squad posted three shots in the opening moments, including attempts by Samuel Mitchell, Rafael Kawata and Lucas Gomes. In the 23rd minute of action, Ayoub Ben Amar tallied a shot that sailed right of the post. Rafael Reno's attempt a moment later missed left.

In the 27th minute of action, Mitchell placed a shot on goal that was stopped by the keeper. Kenny Kwizera Jr. had the same outcome at the 33:01 mark. The Pacers had another shot by Ben Amar with less than 10 minutes to play before halftime, but it was stopped.

In a quick flurry with just over 20 minutes to play, Reno and Kwizera Jr., had shots on goal, but each was thwarted by the keeper. In the 72nd minute, USCA registered three consecutive corner kicks, but none resulted in a shot.

With less than a minute to play, the Pacers drew a corner kick, resulting in a shot by Damian Rogers. However, it missed high.

For the match, Reno led the way with three shots, including one on goal. Kawata and Mitchell had two shots each. Off the bench, Ben Amar and Kwizera Jr. posted two shots each. Both of Kwizera's attempts were on target.
