AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's soccer team lost a 3-0 decision to Georgia Southwestern Wednesday evening in a PBC clash.
The Pacers are now 3-2-1 on the season, including 1-1 in PBC play. The Hurricanes stand at 3-2 on the year and 2-1 against conference foes.
USCA controlled the opening minutes of the match.
Rafael Kawata registered a shot at the 3:26 mark, but it was stopped.
Frankie Martinez's attempt sailed high of the crossbar moments later. Kenny Kwizera's shot was thwarted by the keeper at the 11:30 mark and the Hurricanes managed to find the back of the net just 90 seconds later.
The score would remain the same entering the second half despite some outstanding looks by the Pacers.
Rafael Reno, Kawata and
Cheikh Atamao garnered shots on goal, but the three were turned away.
Davis Scharfeld and
Riad Zitouni placed shots on target around the midway point of the period.
GSW scored a pair of goals in the early portion of the second stanza for a 3-0 lead. Head coach
Nick Sakiewicz's squad continued to push forward and had several solid chances, including a twisting shot on goal from Kawata at the 62:52 mark. Kawata tallied another shot on goal in the 66
th minute, but a second outstanding save kept the contest at 3-0.
In the 75
th minute, Reno had a breakaway, but the point-blank shot was stopped.
For the match, USCA totaled 21 shots, including 14 on goal. The squad garnered nine corner kicks in the contest.
Felipe Mattos played all 90 minutes between the pipes and had six saves.
