USCA Sweeps Mississippi College

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team registered a sweep of Mississippi College Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 5-4 on the season.

Head coach Glenn Cox's team was led by Anna Sommer's 11 kills. Bailey Corrigan, Alli Bishop and Lexi Rogers had nine kills each while Chloe Duzenack notched eight kills. Corrigan accounted for 10 digs.

Sidney Hogan picked up her 1,000th career assist in the double-double effort with 22 assists and 11 digs. Madison Fox totaled 13 assists and eight digs while Kira Bostick picked up a double-double with 10 assists and 17 digs.

At the net, Sommer recorded three blocks while Duzenack had two.

Up 9-8 in the first set, three straight miscues by the visitors pushed the margin to four, 12-8. After a time-out, USCA found two more points off swings from Sommer and Rogers. Holding a 14-9 edge, an error gave the Pacers a 15-9 lead. Bishop extended the advantage to seven before an error made it 17-9. An error gave Cox's team a 21-12 margin. Rogers found the court for a kill. Moments later, another error allowed USCA to take the set, 25-15.

USCA trailed 12-7 in the second frame before Duzenack found the court for a point. Sommer followed it up with a point of her own before a miscue made it 12-10. Down 18-16, Avery Pearson powered home a pass from Fox and Rogers served up an ace, knotting the score at 18-18 while forcing a time-out from the visitors. Maintaining a 20-19 lead, Duzenack and Corrigan slammed home kills, forcing another break in the action by MC.

Down 6-4 in the third stanza, Fox found the back corner for a kill. Corrigan knotted the contest with a thunderous kill. Two errors by the visitors extended the margin to two, 8-6. Moments later, Duzenack and Sommer combined for a block, making the score 11-7. Tied at 14-14, Rogers hammered home a kill. Leading 16-15, Rogers scored again before Duzenack and Pearson stuffed an attack, pushing the score to 18-15. Back-to-back points from Duzenack extended the margin to five, 22-17. However, MC pulled within one at 22-21, forcing Cox to call a time-out. Down 24-23, Sommer and Bishop recorded kills before Corrigan's ace wrapped up the match.

For the match, USCA hit .302, including an impressive .414 in the first set. The squad finished the match by hitting .333 in the final frame.
