AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team picked up a pair of wins on Saturday, besting Francis Marion 3-0 and North Greenville 3-1.
The Pacers are now 4-3 on the young season.
Against Francis Marion, head coach
Glenn Cox's team was led by
Anna Sommer's 12 kills and .588 attack percentage.
Chloe Duzenack added seven kills while
Lexi Rogers chipped in six.
Alli Bishop and
Ana Cate Loftus totaled five apiece.
Sidney Hogan dished out 18 assists while
Madison Fox totaled 13.
Defensively, Loftus led the way with 12 digs and Rogers accounted for 10. At the net, Bishop had four block assists while Sommer totaled three blocks.
Avery Pearson also had a pair of blocks.
In the early part of the first set, a kill by Loftus pushed the margin to 10-8. Tied at 13-13, Bishop found the court for a point. Two plays later, Duzenack pushed the margin to 15-14 in favor of the home team. A pair of aces by
Kira Bostick extended the advantage to four, 18-14. After a kill by Sommer forced a time-out by the Patriots, Loftus served up an ace and Sommer stuffed an attempt for a 22-16 edge. FMU pulled within four at 24-20, but Rogers hammered home a pass for the five-point victory.
Tied at 5-5 in the second frame, Rogers got things going for Cox's team with a kill. Up 9-5, Rogers, Fox and Loftus slammed home kills. Duzenack garnered a point for a 15-8 lead. USCA maintained the advantage throughout as an ace by Loftus, a kill from Sommer and a miscue by FMU extended the score to 22-13. Holding a 24-16 lead, USCA took the set after a service error.
USCA took an 8-7 lead in the third stanza off a kill from Duzenack and never looked back. The point sparked a 13-5 run and essentially left little doubt in the outcome. Up 12-9, Loftus started a spurt with a kill. Bishop and Sommer combined for a block before an ace from Hogan and a kill from Sommer. Bishop added a point and was in on a block with Sommer for an 18-9 margin en route to the 25-18 victory.
Against North Greenville, Sommer led the way with 11 kills and seven digs. Rogers posted a double-double with 10 kills and 14 digs while
Alli Bishop totaled 10 kills and five blocks.
Loftus chimed in with seven kills and eight digs while Pearson hit .500 with six kills while adding six total blocks.
The Pacers hit .483 in the first set as the team opened up a 20-10 edge after a kill from Duzenack. Up 22-16, Rogers and Bishop added points. Moments later, Sommer finished the frame with a kill for a 25-18 victory.
After dropping the second set, USCA jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the third frame after back-to-back blocks from Bishop and Pearson. Up 13-8,
Bailey Corrigan and Rogers notched kills. Holding an 18-11 edge, Bishop slammed home back-to-back kills. With a 22-14 advantage, a pair of errors and a kill from Rogers gave the Pacers a 25-14 win.
Down 12-11 in the fourth set, an error sparked a 5-0 run for the home team. Rogers had two kills in the run while Sommer had an ace. Pearson and Rogers combined for a block. With the score 19-14, USCA emphatically closed the door with a 6-0 run. Rogers had a kill and an ace in the run while Pearson totaled a block.
