AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA men's soccer team posted a 3-0 victory over Barton Saturday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 1-1-1 on the season.
Head coach
Nick Sakiewicz's team was led by a trio of student-athletes that found the back of the net.
Lucas Gomes,
Rafael Kawata and
Ethan Duncan all scored their first goals of the season.
The Pacers wasted little time getting on the board. After a foul, Kawata rocketed the ball toward the box. Gomes headed it home to the upper left of the frame for the one-goal advantage.
With the score still at 1-0 entering the second half, Sakiewicz's squad tacked on an insurance goal. Just 21 seconds into the period, Kawata found the back of the net for the two-goal advantage.
USCA continued to dominate and push forward throughout the match. Although Barton had more shots in the second period, the Pacers made their attempts count. In the 86
th minute of action,
Emilio Roman found Duncan for the final tally of the night.
For the match, USCA held a 13-11 edge in shots, including a 7-4 margin on goal. Sakiewicz's team had five corner kicks.
Kawata totaled four shots, including two on goal.
Rafael Reno had two shots while Gomes,
Johan Morel and
Kenny Kwizera Jr., all had shots. Off the bench, Finley Dyer had two shots, including one on goal.
Frankie Martinez and Duncan also posted shots on target.
Sean Simoncelli stopped all four shots he faced for the shutout.
