AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA volleyball team split a pair of matches on Friday, besting Mount Olive 3-1 before falling 3-0 to Carson-Newman.
The Pacers are now 2-3 on the season.
Against Mount Olive,
Anna Sommer led the way with 13 kills while
Lexi Rogers added 10.
Chloe Duzenack and
Alli Bishop had eight kills each while
Ana Cate Loftus chipped in six.
Sidney Hogan dished out 22 assists while
Madison Fox added 21.
Avery Pearson led the way with seven total blocks while Sommer added five. Bishop had four while Duzenack and Loftus had three each.
Kira Bostick tallied 20 digs while Loftus accounted for 15.
The visitors held an 11-7 edge before Sommer slammed home a kill. A run by UMO pushed the margin to six, 17-11. However, Duzenack powered home a pass from Fox for the point. The Trojans maintained a 24-18 lead before a service error sparked a run by the Pacers. Duzenack registered a kill before Loftus and Pearson combined for a block. After a point by Loftus, she and Pearson combined for another block to pull within one. However, UMO secured the 25-23 victory.
Trailing 11-6 in the second stanza, Loftus and Duzenack recorded back-to-back points. Somer made it 11-9 before three straight miscues by UMO propelled the Pacers to a 12-11 edge. Down 14-13, a bad set knotted the score. Rogers found the court for a point before two errors gave USCA a 17-14 lead. The back-and-forth affair saw the teams play to a 23-23 tie. Bishop slammed home a kill before Rogers and Sommer combined for the final point, tying the match at 1-1.
The tightly-contested third stanza saw UMO tie the score at 15-15 before a service error pushed USCA to the lead. Sommer found the court for a two-point margin. Up 18-17, an error by the visitors and a block from Bishop extended the advantage to three, 20-17. Cox's group took a 23-20 lead on a kill from Bishop. An off-speed shot from Rogers made it 24-21. Duzenack and Pearson combined for a block, securing the 25-22 victory for a 2-1 advantage.
USCA held a 10-9 lead before Sommer garnered a kill. Bishop and Pearson combined for a block before Rogers hammered home a pass from Hogan for a 13-9 edge. Up 15-13,
Madison Fox tallied a kill. Sommer blocked an attempt, an error by the Trojans and a point from Duzenack forced a time-out at 19-13. Holding a 24-18 margin, Sommer finished off the match with a block.
Against Carson-Newman, Rogers led the way with seven kills. Bishop notched six kills while Sommer had three kills and three blocks. Duzenack totaled three kills while
Bailey Corrigan and
Tucker Patterson had two kills apiece.
Hogan dished out 14 assists while Fox posted eight. Bostick accounted for 15 digs while Hogan's 10 gave her a double-double.
