USCA Drops Series Finale

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The USCA baseball team lost a 17-6 decision at Georgia College Sunday afternoon.

The Pacers are now 16-22 on the season, including 6-12 in PBC play.

Head coach Michael Holder's team trailed 4-0 after the first inning and got on the board in the second stanza. Donovan Glisson walked and moved to second on a wild pitch. Glisson raced home when Jack Hobson ripped a single up the middle.

Down 7-1 entering the third, Ethan Hall opened the stanza with a single through the right side of the infield. Josh Sharp belted a base hit up the middle and hustled to second on the throw. Griffin Rowe drew a walk to load the bags for Hunter Thompson, who promptly roped a base hit to right center field to bring in Hall. Sharp scored when Glisson hit into a double play, to make it 7-3.

Facing a 9-3 deficit in the fifth, Holder's squad cut the margin to four. Sharp recorded an infield single and moved to second when Rowe was hit by a pitch. With one down, Glisson registered a sacrifice fly, plating Sharp. Eliud Poventud tallied a base hit up the middle, knocking in Rowe.

The Bobcats scored a run in the fifth and seven runs in the sixth for a 17-5 margin. USCA pushed a run across in the seventh when Poventud singled in Tyler Simmons, who entered as a pinch hitter and was hit by a pitch.

For the game, Hobson and Poventud led the way with a three-hit performance. Sharp and Thompson had two hits apiece while Hall and Wyatt McPherson also had base knocks. Poventud had a pair of RBI in the contest while Sharp scored twice.

On the mound, Cade Bouknight got the start and worked two frames. Jared Huse worked the third while Cole Evilsizor threw the fourth and fifth stanzas and had three strikeouts. Lucas Highberger saw time on the bump before Jacob Bodkin worked the sixth and had a strikeout.

The Pacers return to action Tuesday when they host Francis Marion at 6 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
