Hobson Guides Pacers Past Sand Sharks

BEAUFORT, S.C. – Jack Hobson hit for the cycle as the USCA baseball team posted a 10-8 win at USC Beaufort Friday evening.

The Pacers are now 20-27 on the season, including a 9-16 ledger in PBC play.

Down 3-0 through three innings, USCA posted seven runs in the fourth. Donovan Glisson doubled to left field and took third on Brody Yeomans' base knock to right field. A walk to Kaden Usry loaded the bases for Hobson, who promptly doubled in Glisson and Yeomans.

Two batters later, a wild pitch allowed Usry to score while Hobson hustled to third. Tyler Casciato singled in Hobson for a 4-3 advantage. Josh Sharp reached on a fielder's choice, which erased Casciato and Sharp promptly stole second base. However, he was able to trot home as Capers Molinaroli crushed a two-run shot over the left field fence. After a double by Hunter Thompson, Glisson doubled home Thompson for the team's seventh run.

Tied at 7-7 in the seventh, Glisson led off the frame with a single to right field and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Griffin Rowe. Hobson launched a two-run shot over the left center field fence for a 9-7 working margin.

Head coach Michael Holder's team added to the lead in the eighth. Sharp singled and stole second with one down. After scampering to third on a fly ball, Sharp raced home on a wild pitch for a three-run cushion.

For the game, Hobson had four hits, drove in four and scored twice. He picked up a triple in the fifth frame and singled in the ninth to complete the cycle. Glisson posted three hits, including two doubles, and scored twice. Thompson and Yeomans had two hits apiece – and each had a double. Molinaroli drove in two while Sharp had two steals and scored twice.

On the mound, Blayne Newman got the start and struck out nine in 5.1 innings. Damien Ashley saw time on the bump before Cole Evilsizor entered in relief. Evilsizor tossed 2.2 innings and had four strikeouts before giving way to Charles Herring, Jr. It took just 13 pitches for Herring, Jr., to strike out the Sand Sharks and to pick up the save.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow for the second game of the three-game series starting at 2 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
