AIKEN, S.C. –
Josh Sharp set the school record with his 11
th triple of the season and scored the game-winning run as the USCA baseball team posted a 4-2 win over Newberry Tuesday evening.
The Pacers are now 19-27 on the season.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team trailed 1-0 in the bottom of the second but quickly knotted the score.
Donovan Glisson led off the stanza with a double down the left field line and hustled to third on a groundout. He scored on a wild pitch, knotting the contest at 1-1.
Down 2-1 in the fifth,
Tyler Casciato was hit by a pitch and took second on a sacrifice bunt by
Eliud Poventud. Two batters later,
Capers Molinaroli rocketed a single up the middle, plating Casciato.
The score remained tied at 2-2 until the eighth inning. Sharp took a 1-1 pitch into the gap in right center field. The defense turned and fired to the cut-off man, but Sharp slid into third base as the relay was a few feet wide of the bag, for his school-record triple. Molinaroli ripped an offering up the middle and past the drawn-in infield, allowing Sharp to cross home.
Molinaroli stole second and took third on Glisson's base hit to right field before
Griffin Rowe entered as a pinch hitter and lifted a sacrifice fly to center field for a 4-2 advantage.
For the game, Molinaroli led the way with three hits and two RBI. Glisson posted two hits, including a double. Sharp tripled while
Kaden Usry had a base knock.
On the mound,
Blayne Newman got the start and worked two frames. He had a pair of strikeouts.
Damien Ashley recorded a pair of strikeouts while also tossing two innings.
Jared Huse threw three scoreless frames.
Cole Evilsizor worked 1.2 innings to get the win while
Charles Herring, Jr., recorded a strikeout to pick up the save.
