AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team plated seven runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for a 9-5 win over Augusta Sunday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 18-24 on the season, including 8-13 in PBC play.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team fell behind 1-0 in the top of the first but quickly responded.
Josh Sharp singled and swiped second with one away. After a walk to Hutner Thompson,
Jack Hobson banged a pitch off the right field wall, plating Sharp.
Brody Yeomans followed that with a double to center field, knocking in Thompson.
The Jaguars tied the game in the sixth with a solo round-tripper.
USCA broke open the game in the eighth. Tied at 2-2, Thompson was hit by a pitch while facing a 1-2 count.
Trevor Gruszka entered as a pinch hitter and took third on a failed pick-off attempt. However, he was able to walk home when Hobson launched a two-run shot over the left field fence to make it 4-2.
Brody Yeomans was hit by a pitch and took second on a sacrifice bunt by
Eliud Poventud. After
Donovan Glisson was hit by a pitch,
Tyler Casciato singled in Yeomans.
JB Bell singled home Glisson before Sharp uncorked a three-run blast on a full count over the right field fence for a 9-2 advantage.
For the game, Sharp led the way with three hits, including a home run, three RBI and two runs scored. Hobson and
Capers Molinaroli had two hits apiece. Hobson drove in three.
On the mound,
Cade Bouknight got the start and worked six innings and had eight strikeouts.
Jared Huse worked one-third of an inning before
Cole Evilsizor tossed the final 2.2 innings for the win. He had five strikeouts.
