AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team picked up a 5-3 win over Georgia Southwestern Sunday afternoon in the series finale.
The Pacers are now 13-9 overall, including 5-1 in PBC play.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team fell behind 3-0 in the second inning. However, the team broke through in the third stanza.
Ethan Hall led off the frame with a single to center field and moved to second on a passed ball. After hustling to third on a fly ball, Hall scored on a
Griffin Rowe sacrifice fly.
USCA plated a run in the fourth. With one down,
Brody Yeomans ripped a single to center field and moved to third on a hit-and-run by
Tyler Casciato.
Jack Hobson took a 1-2 pitch and belted it up the middle, knocking in Yeomans.
The Pacers took the lead in the fifth. Sharp took the first pitch he saw and recorded a bunt single. Rowe recorded a base hit to third, putting two on.
Hunter Thompson doubled to deep right field, driving in both teammates.
Donovan Glisson was hit by a pitch. Thompson stole third and scored on an error, pushing the margin to 5-3.
With
Damien Ashley on the mound, that was more than enough for Holder's team. Ashley closed out the final four innings and had four strikeouts to get the save. He did not allow a run in the victory.
Cade Bouknight worked five innings and had six strikeouts to get the win.
For the game, Casciato, Sharp and Yeomans had two hits apiece. Thompson drove in two and had a double in the win.
Gage Kirkland also notched an extra base hit with a double.
