USCA Takes Two From Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. - The USCA softball team picked up the doubleheader sweep at Georgia Southwestern on Saturday, winning by scores of 4-1 and 5-2.

The Pacers are now 13-13 overall and 2-4 in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team jumped on top with a four-run second inning of game one. Kate Newberry reached on an error and moved to second on a Lakyn Phillips base hit. Tara McGee roped a single down the left field line, pushing Newberry across home plate. After a sacrifice bunt by Mollie Rollings, Madison Rogers drove in Phillips with a base hit.

Rogers swiped second and Anna Turner reached on an error. A wild pitch allowed McGee to score. With two down, a passed ball let Rogers cross home for a 4-0 advantage.

The Hurricanes plated a run in the third and threatened in the fifth, but back-to-back pop-ups ended the stanza.

With Phillips in the circle, USCA managed to close out the game without allowing another run for the win.

For the game, Newberry, Phillips and Rollings had two hits apiece. Newberry had a double while McGee and Rogers had one RBI apiece.

In the circle, Phillips went the distance and struck out nine for the complete-game win. She gave up one run on seven hits.

Game two saw the Pacers plate a run in the top of the first. With one down, Autumn Fisher laced a double to left center field and scored when Mallory Shaver rocketed a double to the gap in right center field.

Poole's team made a splash in the third inning. Lydia Johnson recorded a one-out single to the shortstop. With two down, Shaver blasted a two-run shot over the center field wall for a 3-0 advantage.

The Pacers extended the margin in the fourth. McGee roped a double to the gap and moved to third on a groundout. She scored on a wild pitch, pushing the lead to 4-0.

Holding a 4-2 lead in the sixth, Newberry posted a single to right center field. After back-to-back outs, she hustled to third on a wild pitch before scoring on Turner's base hit.
 
For the game, Shaver led the way with two hits, including a home run and a double, to go along with three RBI. Johnson, Fisher, Newberry, McGee, Turner and Rogers all had base knocks. Fisher and McGee posted doubles.

In the circle, Ally Fleming went the distance for the complete-game win. She had three strikeouts and gave up two runs on six hits with only one walk.
