Pacers Fall To Hurricanes

AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a 10-7 decision to Georgia Southwestern Saturday afternoon in the second game of the series.

The Pacers are now 12-9 on the season and 4-1 in PBC play.

Head coach Michael Holder's team trailed 2-0 heading into the bottom of the first and the team responded quickly. Griffin Rowe led off the at bat with a walk and moved to second on a bunt single by Josh Sharp. An error allowed Capers Molinaroli to reach while Rowe raced home. Hunter Thompson was hit by a pitch, putting two on. Donovan Glisson ripped a single through the right side of the defense, allowing Sharp and Molinaroli to score for a 3-2 advantage.

The Hurricanes led 5-3, but USCA trimmed the deficit to a run in the bottom of the second. Sharp laced a one-out single to right field and moved to second on the throw. After moving to third on a groundout, he scored on a base knock by Thompson.

The Pacers knotted the score at 5-5 in the fourth. Sharp was once again the catalyst, getting things going with an infield hit. He advanced to second on a throwing error and scored on a double by Molinaroli.

GSW pushed across a run in the fifth to make it 6-5, but the lead was short lived. In the bottom of the stanza, Glisson was hit by a pitch and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Brody Yeomans. After moving to third on a groundout, Tyler Casciato roped a single to right field, plating Glisson.   

USCA took the lead in the sixth after Sharp pulled a ball into the gap in right field for a triple. Moments later, Thompson poked a single up the middle for a 7-6 edge.

GSW countered with two runs in the seventh and one in the eighth for a 9-7 advantage. The visitors tacked on a run in the ninth for the three-run lead.

For the game, Sharp led the way with four hits, including a triple, and four runs scored. Glisson and Thompson had two hits and two RBI apiece.

On the mound, Logan Wise got the start and had three strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Jared Huse had two strikeouts in two frames. Charles Herring, Jr., had one strikeout in 1.1 innings. Damien Ashley and Jacob Bodkin also had a strikeout while Cole Evilsizor recorded the final out in the ninth.
