Newberry Crushes Solo Shot At Georgia Southwestern

AMERICUS, Ga. - The USCA softball team lost a 3-1 decision at Georgia Southwestern Friday evening in the first game of the series.

The Pacers are now 11-13 on the season, including an 0-4 ledger in PBC play.

Head coach Jaclin Poole's team saw Mallory Shaver get on base to start the second inning, but a double play erased her. Mollie Rollings promptly ripped a single to left center field, but a groundout ended the threat.

GSW plated a run in the bottom of the second for a 1-0 advantage.

In the third, Madison Rogers and Anna Turner were each hit by pitches, but three straight outs ended the stanza. The Hurricanes scored two runs in the bottom of the inning for a three-run lead.

Poole's team had an opportunity to push across multiple runs in the fourth. With one down, Tara McGee rocketed a single to center field. An infield hit by Rollings put two one, but back-to-back outs concluded the frame.

USCA got on the board in the sixth when Kate Newberry garnered a solo shot over the left field wall to make it 3-1.

The Pacers had a chance to tie it in the seventh. With two down, Lydia Johnson posted an infield single, and an error allowed Autmn Fisher to reach first, putting two on. However, a pop-up ended the game.

For the game, Rollings led the way with two hits. Johnson, McGee, Newberry and Shaver notched base hits. Newberry scored the team's lone run with a homer.

In the circle, Payton Baker went the distance and had seven strikeouts.

The Pacers return to action tomorrow when they play the final two games of the series starting at 1 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PacerSports.com.
