AIKEN, S.C. – The USCA baseball team lost a hard fought 9-8 game to Erskine Wednesday afternoon.
The Pacers are now 11-8 on the season.
Head coach
Michael Holder's team trailed 2-0 in the bottom of the second. With one down,
Brody Yeomans drew a walk and moved to second on a base hit by
Donovan Glisson.
Tyler Casciato ripped a 2-0 offering down the right field line for a double, knocking in both runners.
Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the third,
Josh Sharp led off the inning with a triple and scored on a groundout by
Capers Molinaroli.
USCA fell behind 4-3, but the squad got things going in the fifth. Casciato singled to left field and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by
Ethan Hall. After hustling to third on a wild pitch, Casciato trotted home on a groundout by Sharp. Molinaroli promptly crushed a home run to right field for a one-run advantage.
Griffin Rowe singled to lead off the sixth and promptly stole second base.
Jack Hobson reached on a fielder's choice. An errant throw on the play allowed Rowe and
Donovan Glisson to score. Moments later, Hobson scored on a wild pitch to make it 8-4.
Erskine registered a three-run home run in the seventh to pull within one at 8-7. The visitors plated a run in the eighth and ninth for a 9-8 edge.
Sharp led off the ninth with a double to the gap in left center field, but he was left stranded.
For the game, Sharp, Rowe and Casciato had two hits apiece. Molinaroli crushed a two-run homer while Glisson scored twice.
On the mound,
Nick Taddei had a pair of strikeouts as did
Cole Evilsizor.
Blayne Newman and
Jacob Bodkin had one strikeout each. Evilsizor took the loss.
